About Black Sect Tibetan Tantric Buddhist (BTB) Feng Shui

Feng Shui Los Angeles specializes in the Black Sect Tibetan Tantric Buddhist (BTB) method, as taught by Grandmaster Professor Thomas Lin Yun, the founder of Berkeley, California’s Yun Lin Temple.

BTB Feng Shui is an ideal solution for those who are curious about Feng Shui but skeptical about the relevance of ancient Chinese principles in modern homes.  Though firmly rooted in traditional Feng Shui, BTB was developed to incorporate those ancient principles into contemporary lifestyles.

BTB, now in its fourth stage of development, first arose in India; next, it moved through Tibet into China, eventually reaching the West.   In its current state, BTB blends Western thinking on medicine, physiology, psychology, architecture, ecology, the study of colors and social sciences with traditional Feng Shui’s foundations in ancient Buddhist teachings, Chinese philosophies, and folkloric culture.

Traditional schools of Feng Shui emphasize the sying – a word that refers to tangible, visible factors, including shapes, directions, placement of furniture, architecture and landform chi.

BTB Feng Shui, however, combines these elements with the yi, or the intangible, unseen and transcendental influences on both the environment and inhabitant.  These practices include mudras, mantras and intentions.

Mudras (Sanskrit for "seal" or "sign,"), are specific hand gestures (often used in yoga) which signify intention.  Mantras (“mind tools”) are used as spiritual conduits and to focus the mind.  Like mudras, they are Hindu in origin, but are also interwoven into Buddhism.

Finally, by visualizing one’s highest good and the highest good of all concerned, one sets intention. : Feng Shui is not about getting what you want at others’ expense: It is about creating balance and harmony.

A BTB practitioner might add these ancient rituals and ceremonial blessings to the sying work that a classical practitioner would do. For example, the three secrets reinforcement is a sying and yi adjustment that combines object placement with a mudra, mantra and intention involving the mind, body and speech.

Thanks to BTB’s holistic approach, Feng Shui adjustments are often simple and accommodating.  It’s focus on optimizing the flow of chi means practitioners are likely to advise clients to make enhancements using color, lighting, live plants and/or object/furniture placement.
